How did we get here?
I got my first binder when I was about sixteen years old. It was bad quality, made of elastic bands, and way too tight. I couldn't even breathe when I was wearing it. Thankfully, I didn't actually use this one on a daily basis. I tried it on and looked in the mirror, liked what I saw. But then hid my crappy binder and me back in the closet for another six years.
In 2021, I got my first decent quality binder. But it didn't quite fit and didn't actually bind. I tried a different brand, and it was a little better, but still had the same problems as before. And the swimsuit like fabric all existing brands seemed to use gave me a rash if I wore it for more than a couple of hours. I got really frustrated because I desperately needed a binder and the available options just weren't working for me. At the time, I was a third year fashion and tailoring student, so I decided I should just make my own. I made a list of problems that needed to be fixed in my design. And then I got to work on the design. I was tweaking the pattern and researching materials for a whole year. I eventually landed on a design that perfectly suited my wishes for a binder.
It has more space for the arms to move around in the back panel, is only slightly longer than a sports bra, so it doesn't feel uncomfortable when you sit down, has no shoulder seams, has a wider and lower neckline, and all the seams are hidden. And it is made of GOTS certified organic cotton, which means it's sustainable.
I wanted to make this option available to more people because I surely couldn't be the only looking for this. And here we are!
